Useful Information

PE
Children are required to bring their PE kits to school at the beginning of the term and leave them on their pegs so they will always have the correct kit in school with them.

  • During Autumn Term, Foxes PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.
  • In the Spring and Summer Terms, Foxes PE days will be Wednesday and Thursday.

Year 3 will be attending weekly swimming lessons on a Wednesday morning.

Reading
Children will continue to use Accelerated Reader to quiz books they have read. At the start of each term they will complete an assessment to determine which book level is most appropriate for them. They will then be able to select books to read and once read they can then test their understanding by completing the quiz linked to the book.

Alongside their reading book, they will also be able to take home a reading for pleasure book. This book can be outside of their reading range and therefore will not be quizzed on. If this book is below their reading level, they might like to read it to a younger sibling or if the book is above their reading level we encourage them to read it with an adult taking it in turns to read parts of the book.
Please endeavour to listen to your child read every night for 10-15 minutes as this will make a huge difference to their progress in reading.

Homework
Children will receive a ‘Homework Bingo Grid’ at the start of each new term. The tasks and activities will be linked to our learning in class and children can choose which they will complete at home. One task should be handed in every fortnight.

Spelling
The children will receive spellings on a Tuesday which will be tested on the following Monday.
In spelling lessons, we will continue to use ‘Active Spelling’ four times a week. In these lessons, the children will revisit 6 words that they have previously learnt as well as focusing on spelling patterns for 2 focus words. The 10 focus words for the week along with the Y3/4 Statutory spelling words and activities for learning spelling patterns will be posted on the class web page to further practise at home.
