Implementation
Writing
Text-led narrative learning journeys with a clear end point, based on Jane Considine
Well planned non-fiction units taught with purpose and audience at the forefront
Writing and grammar is planned progressively with many opportunities to revisit learning through spaced practise, enabling children to know and remember more.
Opportunities to apply taught skills in other areas of the curriculum
Spelling
Daily Phonics sessions throughout EYFS/KS1, following the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds programme where spelling is taught and practised.
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds interventions are in place for those children at risk of not keeping up.
Spelling is taught at least times a week for 15-20 minutes throughout KS2 using the Active Spelling approach.
Precision teaching is in place for those children who need extra spelling support in KS2.
Weekly spelling tests are in place to aid assessment
Handwriting
Non-cursive handwriting is taught throughout school following our handwriting policy outlining join progression
Handwriting is linked closely with Phonics and Spelling lessons, with teachers using discreet handwriting lessons when necessary
Opportunities for consolidation of handwriting is encouraged throughout the wider curriculum with handwriting expectations agreed and constant.
