PE Kit

All pupils should bring their PE kit on days when they have PE. They can leave their kit in school until the end of term or until it needs washing if they prefer.
Please include the following in PE bags:

  • Black or navy shorts (not cycling shorts)
  • White T-shirt
  • Black jogging bottoms/leggings (for outdoor PE)
  • Plimsolls for indoor PE
  • Trainers for outside games.

Children will not be permitted to take part in PE without full PE kit including a change of shoes.

Reading
Children will use Accelerated Reader to quiz books after they have read one. At the start of each term they will complete an assessment to determine which book level is most appropriate for them. They will then be able to select books to read and once read they can then test their understanding by completing the quiz linked to the book.

Alongside their reading book, they will also be able to take home a reading for pleasure book. This book can be outside of their reading range and therefore will not be quizzed on. If this book is below their reading level, they might like to read it to a younger sibling or if the book is above their reading level we encourage them to read it with an adult taking it in turns to read parts of the book.
Please endeavour to listen to your child read every night for 10-15 minutes as this will make a huge difference to their progress in reading. You can track your child's progress against their targets by logging onto their Accelerated Reader account.

Homework
Children will receive a ‘Homework Bingo Grid’ at the start of each new term. The tasks and activities will be linked to our learning in class and children can choose which they will complete at home. One task should be handed in every fortnight.

Spelling
The children will receive spellings on a Friday which will be tested on the following Friday.
In spelling lessons, the children will particiapte in ‘Active Spelling’ four times a week. During this, the children will revisit 6 words that they have previously learnt as well as focusing on spelling patterns for 2 focus words. The 10 focus words for the week along with the Y3/4 Statutory spelling words and activities for learning spelling patterns will be posted on the class web page to further practise at home.

Multiplications

Rapid recall of multiplication facts is beneficial within many areas of Maths. TTRS is a fun way of children rehearsing their answers. During the Summer Term, Year 4 pupils will complete a statutory Times Table Check Test. Using TTRS, children can prepare for this as the Test is a similar layout to completing a Soundcheck.
