Off curriculum time
We enrich our curriculum by adding off curriculum days as well as our annual themed week.
Our annual themed week has been a key feature of our teaching and the children's learning for the last few years. The themes of these weeks have been: Religious Education, Enterprise Education, Multi Cultural week and a French week. Our theme this year (2013) is Maths and this will include a Happy Puzzle Day, Parental Workshops - learning with your child and visits to experience maths in the environment. We also hold an annual Anti-Bullying Week in November and an e-safety week in February.
Our off curriculum days inlcude:
Remembrance Day, Children in Need Day, Chinese New Year Day, Red Nose/Sport Relief Day, A Red Day - linked to the British Heart Foundation. This doesn't mean that we abandon the curriculum - it means we extend it so the children's education is not just English and Maths related.
This often happens at other times e.g. Mrs Chadwick has recently celebrated Albert Einsein's discovery of Pi and I observed a couple of excellent lessons (Maths and English) where the children were so enthusiastic they stopped in at breaktime to carry on - including the Y6 footballers!!!!
We have also held a whole school 'Inspiring Women' Day - linked to the 100th anniversary of the Womans Institute. Our annual themed week was RE related. We looked at the Creation story - our world as it was intended to be, our worrld as it is now and how to create the perfect worlfd for the future.
This is an area we are looking to develop further so please watch this space.
